Washington DC has some great coffee shops and some not so great ones. If you’re like me, your coffee standards are high and it’s not something you want to mess with ;) So I’ve tested and tried tons in the area and I these are my absolute favorites - for the coffee quality/taste and the vibe.

Best Coffee Shops Near Washington DC

1. Simona (my fav!)

Adorable coffee shop with a cute patio with string lights! The coffee is also great and comes in super beautiful mugs!

  • Vibe: minimal, cute

  • Neighborhood: Arlington

  • Remote working: Yes but seating is pretty limited.

2. Rare Bird

My other ride or die coffee shop ;) The espresso drinks are really good and it has a cozy, neighborhood feel to it.

  • Vibe: cozy, local, a little hipster

  • Neighborhood: Falls Church

  • Remote working: Yes; it gets busy but there’s a good amount of seating.

3. Blue Bottle

Minimal vibes, quality coffee.

  • Vibe: minimal, bright, modern

  • Neighborhood: Georgetown or Union Market

  • Remote working: Yes (Georgetown location); it gets busy but there’s a good amount of seating.

5. La Colombe

Most of the time, the coffee is great (there’s been a few times it wasn’t consistent and didn’t taste good though). The oat milk draft iced latte is really yummy and what their known for.

  • Vibe: rustic, modern, hip

  • Neighborhood: Blagden Alley, Chinatown, 14th Street, Noma, Downtown, Union Market

  • Remote working: You could but there’s not a lot of seating.

6. Colada

Cuban cafe with great coffee! The iced coco matcha is really good if you’re in the mood for something sweet.

  • Vibe: cute, colorful, casual

  • Neighborhood: The Wharf, 14th Street, Dupont Circle, Mosaic District

  • Remote working: Not ideal because it’s more of a restaurant but you could

7. Blank Street Coffee

Great quality coffee! Best for grab and go - not sitting.

  • Vibe: simple, minimal

  • Neighborhood: 14th Street, The Wharf, Dupont Circle, Shaw

  • Remote working: No

8. Northside Social

Northside has a really local, community feel to it! I haven’t had the coffee but had to put it on the list because the vibe is really nice for working or grabbing coffee/lunch.

  • Vibe: local, cozy, community

  • Neighborhood: Arlington, Falls Church

  • Remote working: Yes

9. Tatte

The coffee is pretty good and the vibe is 10/10 and the food is amazing (I love the short rib cous cous bowl especially). This is a great spot for when you want coffee and lunch.

  • Vibe: cute, trendy, lots of natural light

  • Neighborhood: Old Town Alexandria, West End, Dupont Circle, Clarendon, Foggy Bottom

  • Remote working: Yes; it gets busy but there’s a good amount of seating. Also, since it’s more of a sit down place with food, it can be louder than a normal coffee shop.

Tatte

10. Maman

Super cute coffee shop and cafe. I’m obsessed with the turkey club sandwich and cauliflower salad - SO good.

  • Vibe: cute, charming, chic

  • Neighborhood: Dupont, Georgetown, Union Market, Navy Yard, Penn Quarter

  • Remote working: Yes; it gets busy but most of the locations have good seating.
